Do you remember the blog Stuff White People Like? Well, prepare to have your mind blown by Stuff Christian Culture Likes. It really is a whole universe unto itself, and it's entirely removed from reality. Among the things that they like are The Shack, exclamation points!!!!!!, and jumbotrons.

Strangely enough, they don't mention ironic t-shirts. Although they do cover whole "I'm a Christian Douchebag Trying to be Relevant" look with cheesy hair. But really, I think ironic t-shirts deserves it's own category. I mean, every single d-bag Christian band wears them. It's like they've traveled back in time and denuded the 1970s.

Well, they definitely *do* like The Shack. It's been on the bestseller list at the store for...ever. I've heard how totally awesome it is from about 20of them now, so...yeah.

Even my grandma was reading it, and my grandparents are Covenant Church of Sweden.

Clearly, I have missed some sort of pop culture moment. Pardon my ignorance, but what is The Shack?

The Shack is a book, fiction. Since I haven't read it I can't tell you exactly what it's about, but I'm pretty sure it involves people going into a shack and seeing God...or something...

It's not pop culture. It's Christian culture. It's just that it got popular enough that normal people are hearing about it. If it were pop culture then it would be "of the world" and the Christians would have to stop liking it. That's why they have Christian culture, which is parallel to and mimics pop culture. Madonna and Green Day are bad, worldly things that distract you from your walk with Jesus. Therefore you have to create crappy knock-off bands that sing about safe things. The Christian worldview is like fine china. You have to pack it in bubble wrap so it doesn't break. Christian music, books, seminars, etc. are the bubble wrap.

Why do we groan when we see Christian bands ripping off the styles created by bands like Nirvana? It's because musicians like Kurt Cobain create something genuinely new - they are artists. More than that, rock'n'roll has always been a symbol of African American culture, youth culture, of rebelliousness, of change and liberation and shattering the status quo. Christians musicians take that rich history and piss all over it.

That's...pretty much true.
